Highly praised for his designs for theatre and opera, Rick’s recent projects include a musical version of "BILLY ELLIOTT" composed by Sir Elton John which opened in London in 2005 and will have future performances in Sydney and on Broadway. At the Old Vic he worked with director Robert Altman on "RESURRECTION BLUES" and designed the lighting for several new plays at the Royal Court Theatre. Additional highlights include "BETROTHAL IN A MONASTREY" at Glyndebourne, the international tours of "AN INSPECTOR CALLS" and Matthew Bourne's "SWAN LAKE", "THE FIERY ANGEL" at the Bolshoi, "A MIDSUMMERS NIGHT'S DREAM" at La Fenice, and "JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA" at the National Theatre and the West End, London.
The Philadelphia native received a Tony Award for the Broadway production of "AN INSPECTOR CALLS". He has also received several Olivier Awards for the National Theatre productions of "LADY IN THE DARK", "CHIPS WITH EVERYTHING", and "MACHINAL"; the Royal Court Theatre production of "HYSTERIA"; and the Almeida and Comedy Theatres production of "MOONLIGHT". Rick Fisher is the chairman of the British Association of Lighting Designers.
