LEE support London "Hive" Project.

26 Jan 2010

The aim of the project was to educate children about the plight of U.K. bees. A group of artists lead by Emily Tracy visited 143 primary schools in London and ran half day workshops with year 5 classes. At these workshops the children learnt about the importance of bees, they made detailed scientific drawings which they photocopied and made into a collage. LEE lighting filter was then used with the drawings to create honey comb panels that formed a main sculptor called the “Hive”.The finished sculptor was 4 meters high, mounted on an electric wheel-base and lit internally. It was on display on London’s Southbank for a week and was then used as the centrepiece in the Night Carnival procession as part of the Thames Festival.

In addition to the main “Hive” project, Year 7 pupils form the Lilian Baylis Technology School also designed and made lanterns using LEE lighting filter. The lanterns were used by the children alongside the “Hive” sculptor during the Night Carnival Procession.

The two LEE colours that were used were 013 Straw Tint and 101 Yellow.
